About The Limerick School of Art & Design

The Limerick School of Art & Design (LSAD) is a world renowned art and design centre. LSAD has an award-winning reputation in Ceramics, Fashion, Visual Communications, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture & Combined Media and Teacher Education. The programmes are offered at Honours Degree (Level 8). We also run a taught masters in Art and Design: Social Practice and the Creative Environment, an MA in Art and Design Teaching, a higher diploma in Teacher Education and research postgraduate programmes (in all 6 disciplines in art and design) up to Masters (Level 9) and PhD (Level 10).

A significant factor in our success is our student-orientated philosophy. Incoming students share a common first year that is predominantly diagnostic. This enables you to become literate in the language of art and design, and allows you to make informed choices for your future career.

History

Today LSAD offers an attractive option to students of art and design. Its significant history and reputation make it an appealing choice for students. The long history of student success in national and international art and design competitions shows the high creative standards of the student body. These competitions include the Smirnoff Fashion Awards, Persil Fashion Awards, Gillette Venus Awards, the Graphic Design Business Association (GDBA) Award, The Irish Times Award, The AIB Fashion Bursary and The Institute of Designers in Ireland Graduate Design Awards.

"Limerick School of Art and Design is an exciting, dynamic and most importantly friendly place to work and study. The school is the oldest in the Institute and can trace its history back to 1852. It is located in the wonderful Clare Street Campus where we have great studios, superb facilities and also a spectacular Gallery space. In recent years we are introducing new post graduate programmes and developing our international profile through study opportunities and placement."
