About the School Of The Built Environment

The School of the Built Environment at LIT is the only institute or university in Ireland with a full year of work placement on its Honours Degree programmes. LIT offers the largest specialised centre for property, quantity surveying, construction and civil engineering education and training outside of Dublin.

Our enrolment numbers have remained steady at 1,000 learners despite the reduced level of activity in the construction industry. This is due, in part, to graduate enrolment in add-on programmes to upgrade their qualifications and to applicants from a trade's background taking the opportunity to achieve a higher level qualification suited to managerial level positions.

Our programmes offer professional recognition from the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS), the Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and Engineers Ireland.

Many of our students and graduates are well known on Irish sporting fields and the School’s students contributed hugely to the successful LIT Fitzgibbon hurling team of the last few years.
