Limerick’s Elderly in for an “All Sorts” Treat
LIT Students Demonstrate Social Responsibility
Plans for a day of ballroom dancing, traditional music and reminiscing over pots of tea are currently underway at the Limerick Institute of Technology. Event Management students will host an event for the elderly of Limerick City on February 21st, demonstrating a great sense of corporate social responsibility.
Event Management student, Joanne O’Meara and part of the “All Sorts” team says, “Older people who are living in care are invited for an afternoon of entertainment to demonstrate that we as a community appreciate them and their contribution to Limerick City over the years.”
The title “All Sorts” was chosen as it highlighted each person's unique journey through life. It also ties in with the memories of the famous sweets which in a quirky twist, will also be incorporated into the theme on the day.
Joanne says, “Limerick Institute of Technology was chosen as the venue for this event as it offers the chance to combine the characters of the future with the characters of the past.”
The event is non-profit and kindly sponsored by Bluebird Care. Eddie and the team consistently "deliver the level of care that we would expect for our own elderly relatives. That way we know we have got it right!”
The occasion is also sponsored by Masterchefs Hospitality who continue to generously support local projects. Pat and the team are "renowned for exquisite cuisine and polished service"
The event offers those who cannot afford many senior citizen activities, a chance to socialise in the community. The Event Management students say the event is designed to brighten up the “dark days of winter generating spring-time smiles”.
The vision of the students is to inspire and encourage others to come on board in creating awareness of the importance of older people in society.
“All Sorts” takes place on Thursday 21st February from 2.30pm-5.30pm in the Aula Maxima at Limerick Institute of Technology. For more information contact Joanne O’Meara on 087-1257676 or email allsorts2013@gmail.com
