Department of Sport

The Department of Sport is dedicated to providing you with the relevant skills and competencies to deal with the real world challenges you will encounter in the workplace of your chosen discipline. The Department of Sport & Finance offers programmes leading to qualifications in Sports Strength & Conditioning, Sports Management and Sports Development and Coaching. 

Our programmes are at Honours Degree (Level 8), Ordinary Degree (Level 7) and Higher Certificate (Level 6), with durations of study being 2, 3 and 4 years. All our Level 6 and 7 programmes offer graduates an opportunity to continue on to gain an Honours Degree (Level 8).

Our Sports Strength & Conditioning programme is delivered by experienced industry professionals in purpose built facilities and our Sports Management and Sports Development & Coaching programmes combine the best of sport, business and management.

The Department of Sport offers the following programmes that require students to undertake placement and volunteer posts:

  • Business Studies with Sports Management – Bachelor of Arts (Honours)
  • Community Sports Development – Bachelor of Arts
  • Sports Development & Coaching – Higher Certificate in Arts
  • Sports Strength & Conditioning – Bachelor of Science (Honours)
  • Sports Strength & Conditioning – Bachelor of Science

To ensure the protection of the public and justify public trust and confidence, LIT uses the Garda Vetting Unit (GCVU) service to assess the suitability of applicants to these programmes. Depending upon the outcome of the vetting process, the Institute reserves the following rights:

  • To not register a student;
  • To remove an existing registered student;
  • To delay the student’s placement modules on programmes.

In all circumstances, it is the student’s responsibility to be proactive disclosing any convictions or pending cases. The Institute reserves the right to inform any placement provider of any convictions or pending cases.
