Some of the places you may begin your job search:
- Directly to the company - In recent times this has yielded very positive results for many. Don't wait for them to advertise, contact them first but know as much as you can about them and impress with a strong application that shows how you'll fit into and add to their organisation
Newspaper - although becoming less popular newspapers are still a great source of jobs, particularly in areas of the public sector and seasonal work - Internet - there are hundreds of jobs advertised on the internet. Below are numerous links that may be useful. Also note that graduate employers advertise their vacancies directly via the "Graduate Vacancies" section of this site.
- Recruitment Consultants - register with 1/2 recruitment agencies in your area, no more. Keep track of where they are sending your details. They can be a great source of temporary and graduate work and it's crucial to build a good relationship with them and keep in regular contact.
- Newspaper - although becoming less popular newspapers are still a great source of jobs, particularly in areas of the public sector and seasonal work
- Network - take advantage of your friends, family, neighbours, class-mates, lecturers, team-mates and other connections. In a recent survey of LIT gradautes over 30% had used their network to secure employment.
- Job Fairs/ Company Presentations - The LIT Careers & Further Options Fair is an annual showcase of graduate employers and is a perfect opportunity to meet with potential employers. Employers also visit the campus throughout the year to deliver employer presenatations (See the "Careers Events Calendar" for details of upcoming visits and events)
