What is the programme about? This programme is designed to provide higher level Civil Engineering Technicians to the construction industry and covers several transferable skills. The areas of speciality include Civil Engineering, Construction, Geotechnical Engineering, Highway Engineering, Public Health Engineering and Structural Engineering. As a higher level Technician, graduates will undertake challenging and responsible activities on site, in the laboratory or the design office. During the programme, there are opportunities for students to participate in site visits, organised by the programme team. Who is the programme suited to? The programme is suited to students from second level and mature students who wish to work in the construction and civil engineering industry in Ireland and abroad. Top 3 Reasons 1. Class Contact Hours Year 1 Construction Technology & Environmental Services, Land Surveying, Mathematics & IT, Engineering Mechanics & Graphics, Communications, Research & Legal Studies, Materials. Year 2 Civil Engineering Construction & Public Health, Civil Engineering Surveying, Mathematics & Computer Engineering Applications, Structural Engineering Design & Detailing, Soils & Concrete, plus one elective. Electives: Administration & Construction Management, Administration & Environmental Studies or Administration & Quantities
Year 3 Civil Engineering Construction & Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Public Health & Environmental Engineering, Major Project, plus 2 electives.
Electives: Highway Engineering & Management Practice, Contract Administration & Law, Engineering Maths & Computer Applications or Highway Engineering & Surveying Entry Requirement
A minimum of 5 O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish.
