GIS (Geographical Information Systems) & Engineering Asset Management are essential disciplines in the management of data and information for private and public bodies. Customer databases and fixed asset inventories are captured in GIS. For example health insurance companies now use GIS to organise their customer database according to geographic locations, demographics, and ailments. Likewise, Engineering Asset Management is now a growing management discipline for organisations responsible for infrastructure. Examples of organisations that require engineering asset management include utility providers, Rail and Road Authorities, and Local Authorities all of whom manage a range of assets from buildings to water, power and fuel networks, to road and bridge infrastructure.
