What is the programme about? Even in the midst of recession, the drug and medicinal products manufacturing sector remains Ireland’s largest single exporter. This programme was designed in consultation with industrial partners to meet the growing needs of the sector. A medicinal product is “any substance or combination of substances for treating or preventing disease in human beings or animals”.
This programme allows students to develop the analytical laboratory skills necessary to work in the highly regulated industries that manufacture medicines and healthcare products. It offers students the chance to study how these essential products and their delivery systems are discovered, designed, developed and tested to make sure that they are manufactured to the highest possible quality. It takes a detailed look at every aspect of manufacture in Ireland’s most successful sector and develops the students’ skills in the areas most required for this leading industry. There is also a six-month work placement in Year 3 of the programme to provide valuable work experience. Who is the programme suited to? Drug and Medicinal Product Analysis is for people who are highly motivated problem-solvers who like chemical and biological laboratory work. Top 3 Reasons 1. You want to develop the hands-on skills necessary to work in a high-tech environment to manufacture vital health-giving products. 2. Analytical scientists are valued for their critical thinking and ability to troubleshoot in many situations: not all analysts wear white coats! 3. This could be the stepping stone to a successful research qualification to Masters or PhD level in LIT or beyond. Class Contact Hours Other Information What our Students say:
