Mark Norris

I graduated in 2012 from L.I.T. Thurles with a Higher Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resource Management. Having really enjoyed the G.I.S. aspect of the course, I decided that was the route I would really like to take professionally. I then went on to study for a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems, through an evening course in LIT Thurles, and graduated from that in 2013. After receiving my qualification, I applied for a position with Mallon Technology, Portlaoise, in July 2013, and have been working there ever since as a G.I.S. analyst for the Department of Agriculture.
L.I.T. Thurles gave me the skills, confidence and qualifications required to work in a position that I really enjoy. Prior to studying at LIT, I had been working as a tiler, and because of a back injury and the decline in the economy, I had to give this up. I decided soon after to apply for a college course, and environmental issues had always been a passion of mine. I have always had a great love for the outdoors, flora, fauna and conservation, so when I discovered the Environmental and Natural Resource Management course I applied straight away. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in this sector. LIT gave me the opportunity to make my passion my work!
Martina Cripps
Bachelor of Science (Honours) Environmental and Natural Resource Management
Employed by ECOS Environmental Consultants Limited
I graduated from LIT Thurles with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Environmental and Natural Recourse Management.
The course equipped me with a broad range of skills not only from an environmental perspective but also from a business and project management perspective. I am currently working as an Environmental Scientist for an Environmental Consultant based in Limerick. I work on a broad range of projects primarily relating water, waste and wastewater such as: Environmental Management, Impact and Assessment, Resource Management.
Previous to this position, I carried out independent research on species of primary concern in the Slieve Bloom Mountains. As part of this research, I applied skills such as ecology and earth science, GIS, research techniques and field studies all of which I developed in my time studying at LIT Thurles. The modules covered during my time studying BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Natural Resources Management prepared for me for a career path in the environmental sector. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in pursuing a career in the environmental sector.
