“The experience I acquired during my four years of studying fashion at
LSAD was invaluable.”

Fashion Design is the creation of design concepts which are then translated into manufactured garments, for every occasion whether they be childrenswear, menswear or womenswear. The fashion industry is a worldwide industry which constantly requires a supply of designers and design concepts to feed a voracious consumer demand for clothes.
Entry into Fashion is by competition and selection during this year.
This is an intensive year, which provides an introduction to all the areas of Fashion Design, Knitwear, Pattern Cutting and Garment Construction. These are taught through workshops, demonstrations and projects which cover childrenswear, womenswear, menswear, etc. In addition Drawing, Presentation Techniques, Professional Practice and Critical and Contextual Studies are covered. Students participate in market research trips to London and Paris.
During this year the focus is on projects that allow learners to discover their own particular creative direction and areas of interest; Fashion Design, Pattern Cutting, Knitwear Construction and Garment Construction are again taught as well as introductions to Fashion Computer Aided Design Systems and Photoshop Techniques. As technical skills improve, learners will be eligible to participate in the competition circuit. Visits to Paris or London to undertake Fabric/Market Research also take place. During the second half of this year work placement is a major feature of the programme requirement.
This year is largely self initiated study which is research based and culminates in a major garment collection which is shown at the annual fashion show. This forms the main assessment component of the year; the other being a Research Report which is the Critical and Contextual Studies requirement.
4 Years (including Art and Design Year One). Also available part time over a longer period (ACCS).
24 per week plus 6 hours Critical and Contextual Studies
