The LIT Ennis Learning Centre

The LIT Ennis Learning Centre (formerly Ennis Regional Learning Centre) is a third-level outreach centre in Ennis, Co. Clare. The Centre was founded in 2009 as a Shannon Consortium initiative. The Shannon Consortium is an education partnership between the University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology, Mary Immaculate College and the Institute of Technology, Tralee.

The Shannon Consortium Ennis Regional Learning Centre was a Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) Cycle 2 initiative administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) aiming to provide flexible access to higher education for the people of Co. Clare.

The aim of the LIT Ennis Learning Centre is to widen participation in higher education. As an outreach centre, it hopes to bring third level education closer to those who traditionally do not travel to the existing regional colleges and universities. The LIT Ennis Learning Centre aims to provide accessible, flexible, accredited, third level opportunities at levels 6 - 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Co. Clare in response to the needs of the local population.

Since September 2011, LIT Ennis Learning Centre has been taken over by Limerick Institute of Technology in order to continue to offer third level education in Co. Clare.

LIT Ennis Learning Centre aims to provide flexible higher education opportunities for the people of Co. Clare. These opportunities will be designed to meet the needs and suit the lifestyles of adult learners and mature students as well as school leavers. This will make third level education more accessible for the people of County Clare. We will provide a range of core services including information on opportunities and supports for those thinking about studying at third level.

At present LIT Ennis Learning Centre offers the following services:

  • Accessible, flexible, accredited, third-level programmes for adults in the Clare region.
  • Free third level educational guidance for adults aged 18+, for two days per month from September to May.
  • An Information Library with course prospectus, application and funding information
  • A computer with free internet access for prospective students, to allow searching for information at your own pace.
