The BA in Social Care Work emphasises the personal and professional development required to work in this challenging field. Social Care is the professional provision of care, protection, support, welfare and advocacy for vulnerable or dependent clients, individually or in groups. Graduates will find employment opportunities with the HSE, statutory and voluntary organisations and with both residential and community-based agencies.

Commenting on the launch of the new degree, Terry Twomey, Interim President LIT said “We are very pleased to be able to offer this programme in Ennis. This is the professional qualification required to become a social care worker, in addition to being a strong academic degree in its own right. It is a tried and tested programme that LIT has been offering in Limerick and Tipperary.
“The programme will take three years to complete and students will be based in Ennis for the duration. Having Higher Education available in Ennis means that it will be easier to access this kind of qualification for people who might otherwise find it difficult to study in Limerick or Galway. The fact that there will be a body of students located in Ennis should be beneficial to the town itself.”
Applications are currently being accepted and should be made directly to LIT. Further programme information is available at: www.lit.ie/courses/LC602
