LIT's International Office

Welcome to the International section of the LIT website. Here you will find all you need to know about the benefits to you of studying in Ireland and specifically at Limerick Institute of Technology.

Why Ireland?

Ireland is one of the fastest growing locations for international students in Europe. The unprecedented growth of the Irish economy over the past ten years has led to an upsurge in demand for local and international talent at all levels in the economy. Successful Irish and Multi-national companies are keenly focussed on sourcing the best talent from Irish colleges and a suitable Irish qualification will give students a head start in their careers.

Why Limerick?

Looking to spend your college days in a fun, forward-thinking and dynamic city where cultural, social and sporting events are at the cornerstone of everyday life? Look no further – Limerick City has it all!

Limerick has gone through a huge redevelopment drive that has transformed the city. Defined by the great river Shannon, the city has an attractive and modern urban centre with boutiques, cafés, and great off the beaten path shops, and a nightlife that will take you into the wee hours of the morning!

By coming to LIT, you will be among some 20,000 third level students in Limerick who are valued for their contribution to making the city the exciting, spirited and energetic place that it is.

As cultural centres go, Limerick has a reputation that cannot easily be matched elsewhere. It is home to the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Daghdha Dance Company, the World Music Centre, Lyric FM, and LIT’s own Wired FM. Theatre and entertainment venues include the LIT Millennium Theatre, University of Limerick Concert Hall, the intimate Belltable Arts Centre, Dolan’s Warehouse and multi-screen cinemas throughout the city.

In the sporting arena, Limerick can proudly boast high profile teams across a wide range of sports. With Thomond Park, home of Munster Rugby, in our backyard and the Gaelic Grounds just down the road, there are loads of opportunities to take in a match. There are also many other sporting clubs such as rowing, boxing, cycling, etc. that combine to give Limerick the edge as Ireland’s sporting capital.

Why LIT?

LIT was the Sunday Times Institute of the Year 2008-2009, and with good reason! We offer you a wide range of programmes across a number of disciplines all geared to today’s employment needs; our research income is one of the fastest growing among IOTs in Ireland, our campuses have the most up-to-date facilities at your fingertips and we’re renowned for success both academically and in the sporting arena. Walk through the rotating door, stroll down the “street” – you have arrived! Welcome to LIT’s Moylish Park Campus – the site of three schools within LIT, including: Business & Humanities, Science, Engineering and Information Technology, and the Built Environment.

Swing a right and walk down the entrance hall to our state-of-the-art Millennium Theatre; a 350 seat theatre used during the day for LIT lectures, and when the sun goes down the theatre lights come up as the site for some of Limerick’s best concerts, recitals, drama, comedy, dance and live entertainment!

Take a walk “up the hill” and you will see a number of buildings in the back yard of Thomond Park, including the EAC, home to over 20 start-up businesses; the Students’ Union Building with its games room, relaxation lounge and Wired FM: LIT’s very own radio station. To the left you will see “Block 15” where the Video & Sound Technology and Music Technology programmes house their brand new recording and editing suites.

Soon, LIT will have a new addition to its campus with the inclusion of a new Learning and Information Resource Centre (LIRC). The existing library will be relocated to this new building. Built with you – the learner – in mind this new building will have vastly increased book and reader space, internet support services, project meeting rooms, as well as open and distance learning facilities.

A few minutes away from the Moylish Park Campus on Clare Street you will find the newly refurbished Limerick School of Art & Design; known for its students who are at the cutting edge in the design world, the campus reflects this imagination, creativity and ambition that we see in our Art & Design students.

If you’re looking for a place to hang your hat and put up your feet at the end of the day, LIT has the perfect place for your home away from home with accommodation villages only minutes walk (or free bus ride with LIT’s shuttle bus) away from the campus.
