LIT was a hive of activity this week as over 1700 graduates, proud parents, friends and relatives descended on the Moylish campus this week for the conferring ceremonies. Qualifications ranging from Higher Certificate through to PhD were presented to the graduates who attended.

In her graduation speech, LIT President Dr Maria Hinfelaar welcomed LIT’s move towards internationalisation. LIT currently has over 100 international students from a wide range of countries including Brazil, Oman, the US, India and European countries. Dr Hinfelaar highlighted the new dimension that these students bring to campus life at LIT saying, “We now have far more international students than ever before and their presence brings a new dimension to campus life, and I am sure to life off campus as well.
In her speech Dr Hinfelaar pointed out the excellent employment record of past graduates with the employment rate from some courses at 100%. However she encouraged graduates not to judge future success on their professional accomplishments alone but also on how they contribute to society as active citizens: “In ten years’ time when you all meet again for your college reunion I hope you judge yourselves not on your professional accomplishments alone, but also on how well you have developed as active citizens.”

Dr Hinfelaar also took the opportunity to welcome the new Chair of the LIT Governing Body Mr Niall Greene.
