LIT Sports Awards 2013
Monday the 22nd of April was the culmination of a long hard slog for a number of our Sports minded people here in LIT, with the annual presentation of our Sports Awards. This year’s bumper event was hosted for the first time in an immaculately turned out Shannon Training Room Restaurant. There were a number of successful teams and individual athletes’ honored at this year’s event. The two stand out teams for 2012-2013 were the Senior Hurling team from the School of Tipperary along with the Ladies Gaelic Football from the Limerick Campus. The men from Tipperary did a remarkable double winning the Division 2 Hurling League and the Ryan Cup. While the Ladies won the Division 5 Ladies Gaelic Football League, what made this game all the more intriguing was that, not only was it decided on a penalty shootout, but rather the victors and the vanquished were both from LIT! On this occasion the Moylish Campus just pipping the girls from the School of Tipperary in what was a breath taking game played out in horrendous, monsoon like condition in mid-December.
Special mention must go to LIT Tipperary Senior Hurlers for following up last year’s Division 3 success with further success in the higher division. They were ably managed and directed under the tutelage Brendan Maher, Fr. O’ Donnell and Wayne Fanning. The Ladies team very managed by our own Student Union President, Niamh Kavanagh. Well done to all involved and we hope there is more success to follow next year again.
