New Era for Education in Clare, as Progression of Ennis College of Further Education Graduates to Further Study at LIT Ennis is Agreed

pic2.jpgLimerick Institute of Technology (LIT), Ennis Campus, and the Ennis College of Further Education (ECFE) have this week signed an agreement that will provide a seamless transition for ECFE graduates to higher education at LIT Ennis. The contract will also copper fasten the relationship between the education providers based in the new Ennis Education Quarter.

Under the agreement LIT will acknowledge ECFE as a preferred link provider to LIT Ennis. This means that the courses provided by ECFE are recognised by LIT Ennis as offering a right of entry to its Ennis programmes, based on the student achieving a full Further Education Award from ECFE.

This special progression relationship will begin in September 2019 and coincide with the opening of the new LIT campus on Bindon Street, Ennis.

For more than a decade and a half, LIT has been providing higher education courses in Clare. During those years, ECFE has been one if its main further education student providers.

Announcing the new agreement between the two education providers, President of LIT Professor Vincent Cunnane said both parties acknowledge the benefits of a mutually supportive relationship.

“This progression agreement acknowledges the special relationship between LIT Ennis and ECFE as collocated education providers within the Education Quarter in Ennis.

“Not only is ECFE located close to LIT’s Ennis Campus, it remains one of the main FE student provider to LIT Ennis. LIT is therefore delighted to establish closer links with ECFE on a more formal basis for the benefit of education provision and learners in Ennis.

“This new agreement will streamline and solidify student progression from ECFE to LIT Ennis,” said Professor Cunnane.

On signing the agreement ECFE Principal Brian O’Donoghue said,

“Ennis College of Further Education has been a significant provider of third level education to Ennis and County Clare. We are delighted to partner with LIT to offer our graduates a seamless route to degree level programmes and to enable them to continue on their educational path.

“Ennis College of Education welcomes LIT to Bindon Street. This partnership allows us to provide the highest quality programmes in the Education Quarter of Ennis. Along with Ennis Community College and Gaelcholáiste an Chláir, ECFE looks forward to an exciting future working closely with LIT.”
