EPLAN joins forces with Igus, Omron, Panasonic, Prion Cutting Edge, Rittal Ireland and Weidmuller to bring Industry 4.0 to Limerick Institute of Technology

In the wake of the next industrial revolution, EPLAN, the global market leader of Electrical CAE software are hosting an event at The Limerick Institute of Technology with the aim of discussing the German concept, Industry 4.0. The event will allow companies to understand what 4.0 means and how existing and near future technologies can help them move towards becoming a smart factory which ultimately produce machines and products that effectively talk to one another.

Industry 4.0 is a high-tech strategy adopted by the German government which promotes the computerisation of traditional industries such as manufacturing. The goal is to create intelligent factories (smart factory) that focus on cyber physical systems primarily consisting of communication technologies, software, senses and processes – all of which have the potential through cloud technology to communicate and interact with each other in an intelligent way.

Ken Christie, Director of EPLAN comments

“Despite the perceived complexity of these methods, what many companies fail to understand is that many of these technologies are available today. As a result, many companies are only using a small percentage of the technologies which are currently available, ultimately sacrificing revenues and productivity enhancements. If companies are to compete in the global marketplace, it is essential that the Republic of Ireland market uptake these innovations as Germany’s National Academy of Science and Engineering argue that Industry 4.0 could lead to a 30 per cent increase in industrial activity”.

To enable companies to understand Industry 4.0 and how it impacts them and their future, EPLAN are hosting an event at the Limerick Institute of Technology on Tuesday 11th April between 09:30 and 17:00 which will demonstrate integrative technologies, highlight how technologies can improve integration along the value chain and enable visitors to discover how companies are preparing for 4.0.

President of Limerick Institute of Technology Professor Vincent Cunnane said,

“We at LIT are extremely happy to host EPLAN. As a higher education institution we are very much focussed on developing the people and culture to successfully drive industry 4.0 here. EPLAN is a very important event in the evolution of Industry 4.0 in Ireland, and we are delighted to be hosting it.”

Exhibiting at the event will be EPLAN, Igus, Omron, Panasonic, Prion Cutting Edge, Rittal Ireland, The Limerick Institute of Technology and Weidmuller who will also be running a variety of educational workshops throughout the day.
