The Department of Applied Social Sciences invites you to:

3rd Annual Undergraduate Conference Making Research ConneXions: ‘Lifespace Research’ and Social Science Fair

Keynote Speaker Dr Terry Lynch.

The Department of Applied Social Sciences warmly invites you to the 3rd Annual Undergraduate Conference and Social Science Fair on Friday 8 April 2016.

We are delighted to have with us on the day Dr Terry Lynch, author, mental health activist, physician and psychotherapist who is actively using his research to challenge the traditional medicalised view of Mental Health towards a more person-centred model based on pain, trauma and recovery. He will be our keynote speaker at 9am in the Millenium Theatre.

The theme of this year’s conference is: Lifespace Research. Practitioners in social care work have a particular opportunity, as practitioner–scholars, to connect with the needs and interests of the people they work with. Social Care workers participate in the life-space of those they work with and are thus able to access unique and meaningful research which can empower the people they support. Insights from this kind of research allow genuine connection with the ways in which service users, their families and practitioners engage with the social world.

As part of conference we will be hosting our Annual Social Science Fair, where our community partners and agencies such as GOSHH, Peter McVerry Trust, Doras Luimni, Headway, Home Instead, EPIC, Daughters of Charity and many more will set up a stand on the day and host one or two mini interactive workshops for LIT students. The event is open to all of our student community in LIT. Workshops will run at 10.30am and 12.30pm and there will be limited availability of spaces for these.

Registration for the event should be made online at: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/lifespace-research-applied-social-sciences-undergraduate-conference-2016-tickets-22109200213
