LIT Outdoor Club invites President for a Paddle!!

LIT Outdoor Club had some new and old guests for a stand up paddle (SUP) along the beautiful and untouched waterways of Limerick City. Enjoying/capturing some old and new memories in this amazing city of ours. With LIT main campus only a stone throw away from the city centre, the club brought their portable inflatable boards/paddles to meet with Dave Neville of Nevsail Watersports based behind The Hunt Museum, Limerick.

A cloudy evening, as a storm was brewing for that weekend, but it didn't stop them having a great end to a Friday evening as they paddled the all and powerful Shannon taking in the full view of King John's Castle on route. Its best to paddle this approx 2 hrs to high tide as the Shannon is slow moving and gently pushes up under Thomand bridge up to Thomand Weir. The scenery then gently changes from city to the beauty of the banks of the Shannon as they continued 180 degs around to the Abbey River, Limerick. At this stage it is hard to believe that you are in a city as you quickly sense that you are now at home to some of Shannons natural habitats, with a wealth of wildlife presented all around from swans, ducks, herons and more. Then a gentle paddle up the green lush banks of the Abbey straight, usually with passing rowers. Finally brought back to the city under Athlunkard bridge and the new Abbey bridge and up Georges Quay waterway under Baals bridges and Mathew bridge. A beautiful waterway experience of Limerick city that takes approx 1.5 hrs.
