Prof Tom Collins – One of Ireland’s Leading Voices on Education Policy and Practice will speak at the LIT Staff Development Day this Thursday Feb 16th at 10a.m. in The Millenium Theatre.

The theme for his address is: Assessment – the tail that wags the teaching and learning dog.

Prof Collins is Chairperson of both the Governing Bodies of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) since 2013 and founding Chairperson of the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) since 2015. He was also appointed Chairperson of the Public Water Forum in 2015.

Prof Collins was President of RCSI (Royal College of Surgeons Ireland) Bahrain from 2011 to 2013. He was Emeritus President of Maynooth University 2010-2011 where he was also Professor of Education and Dean of the Faculty of Social Science from 2006-2010. He was Director of Dundalk Institute of Technology from 2001 - 2006.

Prof Collins played a leading role in the further education and higher education sector in Ireland. He was Director of the Centre for Adult and Community Education in Maynooth from 1994 to 2001 and Government Advisor on the Green Paper (1998) and White Paper (2000) on lifelong learning in Ireland. These Papers continue to form the policy background for the development of further education in Ireland.

Tom Collins has published and lectured widely in all areas of Education and is a regular media columnist.
His footprints are on Educational Policy in Ireland at almost every level of the spectrum. ​​​​​​
