Success for LIT Students in Ireland Skills National Competition 2015

Two students represented LIT at the annual Ireland Skills National Competition in CIT late last year. Jacob Lennon and Conor Whelan were both successful in their respective disciplines and were recognised for their efforts on campus in LIT recently.

The annual National Skills Competition is one of the most prestigious events in the crafts industry calendar and attracts the best trainee craftsmen and women. Competitors are selected from their respective trade backgrounds based on their competence and ability to complete test projects to the highest international standards.

Mr. Lennon from Killaloe, Co. Clare came out on top in Electrical Industrial Control. The competition in this category was tough and involved developing and wiring an automated car-park barrier system using a Siemens PLC and Touchscreen. He now works for ASECURE Ltd. in Ballina, Co. Tipperary and completed the Phase 6 Electrical Apprenticeship.

Mr. Whelan from Tara Co. Meath was nominated by LIT to compete in the Automobile Technology section which he did with aplomb as he won first place. He is presently working with Windsor Motors, Clonee, Co. Meath and completed the Phase 6 in Automobile Technology.
