Department of Applied Social Sciences Hosts Thurles Book Launch

Peg Hanafin - author and friend of the Department of Applied Social Sciences launched her 5th book: "The Stuff of Life"

Peg (a Thurles native) is in her 82nd year and has enjoyed a varied professional life as the founder of a community and adult educaiton centre in Thurles (Colaiste Eile) and as a coordinator and active member of The Vincent De Paul society for over 50 years.

Peg graduated with An MSc in Disability and Rehabilitation Counselling from Tipperarary Institute & University of Illinois almost 20 years ago and has remained a close friend of LIT –Thurles over the years. Peg’s books are all influenced by positive psychology and some of her titles including Never Give Up and Getting More Out of Life have been used by our Social Care Students within Personal Development classes.

Peg has also assisted the Department in forming a relationship with the Centre for Disability Studies at the University of Memphis, Tenessee.  LIT has signed an MOU with the University of Memphis and hosted a study visit for a doctoral student from Memphis - Ms. Lou Conley last Spring.

Speaking at the launch of Peg’s book, Dr. Michael Ryan (Department of Applied Social Sciences LIT), commended Peg for her incredible energy,  intellect & creativity in publishing her fifth book in just five years.

The book is presented in 142 mini-chapters, each with a profound insight on how best to cope and respond to the opportunities and challenges of a life well-lived. The book is available for purchase from: Bookworm Thurles
