Better Options, a college event that will enable you to get ahead of the race and overcome your disability.

When facing a challenge information is key and Limerick Institute of Technology are delighted to host Better Options in association with AHEAD (Assoc. for Higher Education Access & Disability) & DAWN (Disability Advisors Working Network). Better Options is a free event and is key in learning about the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) and completing the CAO Supplementary Information Form as part of the online DARE process, as well as checking out the services and supports available in third level.

LIT were delighted to welcome parOlympian and former student Shane Ryan to launch Better Options which will take place on the 22nd of November 2012. Shane is a member of the Irish rowing team that competed in London 2012 and he happily showed LIT students and staff and Mayor McLoughlin some of the strokes that propelled him to success when attending the launch. Shane is an inspirational ambassador for third level students with a disability as he managed his demanding training schedule and college commitments with extraordinary success despite his visual impairment. Shane’s determination and courage is motivational for all students overcoming their own personal challenges.

LIT look forward to welcoming Sinead Kane as key speaker at Better Options, Sinead’s energy, unrelenting positivity and motivation has helped her become the first registered blind solicitor in Ireland as well as a very successful motivational speaker and mediator. Sinead will offer advice and guidance to attendees on how to overcome challenges and adversity in order to retain self-belief and follow your dreams. Students with disabilities are no different to their peers in their dreams and career aspirations. Therefore, it is extremely important that they and their teachers, parents and guidance counsellors are informed about the opportunities and facilities the colleges have to offer them.

Better Options will take place in Thomond Park, Limerick City form 10.00am to 2.00pm on November 22nd 2012. This event is free and all are welcome, including Students, Guidance Counsellors, Resource Teachers, Learning Support Tutors, SENO's, NEPS & Parents
