LIT is a Hit with Students Past and Present

Almost 1700 new first year students will begin their studies on a multitude of courses across a wide range of disciplines at LIT this week. LIT’s strong performance in this year’s CAO has confirmed its place as the fourth largest IOT in the country. Amongst some of the programmes recruiting very strongly this year are Art and Design, Social Care, Games Development and Mechanical Engineering, representing a healthy cross-section of LIT’s core discipline areas.

This year also saw the launch of several exciting new courses at LIT through direct entry, which have started on a sound basis, in Civil Engineering, Interior Design, Sport Coaching and Legal Studies.

But it is not just a numbers game, the new first year students can be secure in the knowledge that past students have no regrets about choosing LIT and have only positive things to say about their alma mater. Results from the EU Trendence Graduate Barometer show that LIT compares favourably with institutes internationally across a number of metrics. The Trendence Graduate Barometer, a worldwide survey of over 530,000 participants in 27 countries at 1150 higher education institutes has grown to be the largest survey on career, education and employer topics in Europe. Students are asked about their preferences and expectations in their future career, their satisfaction with their university and the attractiveness to future employers.

LIT which is noted for its academic reputation scored particularly well on the availability and helpfulness of its staff and practical course content, which was rated significantly above the average scores for Irish universities and Institutes of Technology. Students also rated LIT’s cooperation and contacts with employers very highly.

Commenting on LIT’s strong performance Dr Maria Hinfelaar, President of LIT said, “for three years running, the EU Graduate Barometer has put LIT top of the class when it comes to issues that really matter to students: how relevant is their programme and what is the quality of our teaching. I am very proud of all our staff, because they deliver on this every day in the academic year. And of course I am delighted to welcome over 1700 new students to LIT and wish them every success.”
