Celebrating Engineers Week at LIT - Events at Limerick and Tipperary

Engineers’ Week is a week long programme of nationwide events to create a positive awareness and spark enthusiasm about the engineering profession.

LIT (Limerick Institute of Technology) will host a number of events at both its Moylish and Thurles campuses. Through the medium of lectures, demonstrations and workshops enthusiasts will be explore engineering disciplines such as civil and digital game development. 


Technology in Civil Engineering Education: An Exhibition for Engineers Week 2012

  • The Department of Construction and Civil Engineering at LIT are offering demonstrations of technology used in Civil Engineering Education (BIM software, Surveying technology and workshop technology) and these workshops offer second level students a fantastic opportunity to experience the technologies in use.
  • Date: Wednesday 29th February  - 2 sessions 10am-11am and 11am-12pm

Engineering the Future

  • This show, aimed at second level students (Junior cycle) will focus on the science behind the electric guitar. Students will be entertained and at the same time learn about the science of sound, electricity, magnetism and electromagnetism. Scientific Sue will send music across the room using a laser pen. Gadgets such as large remotely controlled cars and helicopters and a wall climbing car will be used to demonstrate scientific principals and students will see how an iPhone can control these gadgets.
  • Date: Thursday 1st March – 3 sessions 9.45am-10.45am, 11.15am-12.15pm, 12.45pm-1.45pm

Games Design and Development Workshop

  • Aimed at second level senior cycle students, this digital game design and development workshop will give students the opportunity to consider computer science as a possible engineering career choice. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the process of designing and building a games for Windows Phone 7.
  • Date: Friday 2nd March – 2 sessions: 10.am-12.30pm, 1.30pm-4.00pm (pre booking is essential)
