LIT Tipperary walks with their Operation Transformation Student.
Camera crews from the RTE programme, Operation Transformation, caused a stir when they arrived in LIT Tipperary Thurles Campus on Thursday last to film Kayleigh Yeoman, a student at LIT Thurles. Kayleigh, is one of five leaders who was chosen from hundreds of applicants for the programme which is hugely popular and is aired on Wednesday nights on RTE1.
Kayleigh has made huge progress in the past few weeks on the show and to help her along the way, the staff and students of the college organised the first of a series of group walks on Thursday last, February 2nd in Thurles. This walk followed part of the Sli na Slainte route from LIT Thurles to Killinan (past the Racecourse) and returning to LIT Thurles, a distance of three kilometres in total. The time and date were chosen to ensure that Kayleigh could participate in her Problem Based Learning Group in the First Year of the BA in Social and Community Studies.
The camera crews followed the group on the route, interviewing both staff and students. Kayleigh has really inspired staff and students in LIT Tipperary to overhaul their diets and review fitness levels, and has encouraged people to examine their lifestyles to make changes for the better.
LIT Tipperary have organised a series of group walks along the Sli na Slainte route and are inviting people of all ages to dust off their walking shoes and participate in these Operation Transformation walks. Kayleigh, our local leader, will set the pace and show local walkers how to get the best value out of these walks. Walking is one of the best exercises you can undertake, is suitable for people of all ages, and better yet, it’s free. Slí na Sláinte, meaning "Path to Health", is a national scheme developed by the Irish Heart Foundation. It uses attractive signage at kilometre intervals on established walking routes to help walkers identify the distance they have walked.
So this is your chance to do some walking with family, friends and your community. Let’s get out there in force and encourage the whole county to take steps towards a healthy life. You’d never know when the camera crew will show up again!
