600 second level students attend Science Week @ LIT-Tipperary
To mark Science Week 2011, LIT-Tipperary hosted a number of themed interactive science workshops at its Thurles campus.
Over 600 second level students from schools across the county and beyond were treated to a ‘Space Chemistry Magic Show’ by LIT Research students, some of whom have spent time at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, as well as ‘Move It’ a fast paced exploration of some of the invisible forces which surround us everyday presented by Paul McCrory from Learn Differently Ltd.
To cater for the ever growing interest in LIT-Tipperary’s Games Design and Development programme, students were given a Games Design workshop presented by Nevermind Games and Philip Bourke, Programme Coordinator of the BSc. (Hons) Degree in Games Design & Development at Thurles campus.
Students and teachers engaged in demonstrations which were both fun and educational and which ranged from discovering the explosive forces behind rockets, to making toothpaste, to creating a video game!
Co-ordinated at national level by 'Discover Science and Engineering', Science Week is an innovative annual event which aims to promote the relevance of science, engineering and technology in our everyday lives and demonstrate the importance of these disciplines to the future development of Irish society and to the economy.
