"Worth Another Gander"
A wonderful exhibition of Bog Oak Sculpture and Wildlife Photography by Richard J. Gough opens at LIT Tipperary, Thurles Campus on Friday 24th February 2012.
Bog Oak is found in many cutaway bogs in Ireland in the form of stumps of trees that have survived from ancient forests. These trees can be anything from two thousand to five thousand years old and have been preserved in the bogs until turf cutting exposed them in recent times.
Unlike so many things today, where the destruction of natural materials is common in our environment, it is good to see new life being given to objects that lay dormant for many years.
Richard Gough lives near Nenagh and is an artist, who having worked in various media, has fallen in love with and works now, totally in Bog Wood Sculpture. His work is now in places as far as off as Afghanistan and Australia.
Open to the public during Institute opening hours and with no admission fee, this exhibtiion which marks National Tree Week 2012 is certainly worth another gander!
