Electronic Testing Methods

Degree in Manufacturing Technology - Evening Mode

Aims

To provide the learner with a specialised knowledge of testing, debugging and faultfinding electronic printed circuit boards and systems. Having successfully completed this module, the learner will be able to:


1. Explain the factors affecting equipment and component reliability and define the purpose of standards and test specifications.
2. Use, evaluate and select test equipment for a specific application.
3. Define, interpret, and test parameters, circuits and components and identify and complete the required corrective action for analogue, digital and power supply circuits.
4. State the objectives of testing, determine the accuracy of a particular test, and identify and analyse testing strategies and automated test equipment.
5. Test and to recognise, locate and repair faults in systems, and apply sequential and team based fault finding strategies.

Entry
Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to take this module, however these are not introductory level modules and some familiarity with the area as well as a level of independent study would be expected for exam success.

Content
Introduction, Test Equipment, Digital Circuit Testing And Troubleshooting, Analog Circuit Testing and Troubleshooting, Power Circuit Testing and Troubleshooting, Testing Methodology and Automated Test Equipment (ATE), System Maintenance and Troubleshooting.
Examinations

Each taught module has a programme of continuous assessment worth 50% and a final exam worth 50%. It is necessary to pass both elements to achieve an award in the module. Students not registered on the Degree receive an LIT Subject Certificate on successful completion of the module. Students registered for the Degree will receive ECTS credits for each group of modules successfully completed. Accumulation of 60 credits will lead to the Degree Award.

12 weeks, 1 night per week, from 7:00pm – 10:00pm
