Electrical Testing & Verification

Degree in Electrical Technology - Evening Mode

Aims

To provide the learner with an in depth knowledge of the requirements of the National Rules for electrical Installations (4th Edition ET101:2008) for inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations:


1. Understand the concept and need for inspection and testing of premises.
2. Comprehend the technical knowledge of the inspection of premises.
3. Carry out a practical application of the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations.
4. Fill out a testing and verification completion certificate correctly.

Entry
Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to take this module, however these are not introductory level modules and some familiarity with the area as well as a level of independent study would be expected for exam success.

Content
Purpose of initial verification and periodic inspection and testing, Statutory and nonstatutory requirements, Information to be contained on Certificates and Inspection Reports, Instrument calibration and compliance, sequence of tests, need for protective conductors for earthing, main bonding, supplementary bonding & circuit protection– verifying continuity and interpretation of results, Earth Fault Loop Impedance, Residual Current Devices application and testing, Prospective Fault Current.
Examinations

Each taught module has a programme of continuous assessment worth 50% and a final exam worth 50%. It is necessary to pass both elements to achieve an award in the module. Students not registered on the Degree receive an LIT Subject Certificate on successful completion of the module. Students registered for the Degree will receive ECTS credits for each group of modules successfully completed. Accumulation of 60 credits will lead to the Degree Award.

Duration 

12 weeks, 1 night per week, from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. Every Wednesday (Semester 1 & 2), Starting Wednesday 6th October 2010 and Wednesday 2nd February 2011.
