Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing & Management (Level 8)

 

Programme Description

This one-year add-on programme aims to provide graduates with a broad theoretical and practical preparation for careers at management level in a variety of business situations.

 

Leading-edge business thinking is addressed throughout the programme in the context of best contemporary practice. This includes skill development in the areas of: team working, selfmanagement & awareness, working styles, learning styles, emotional intelligence, and communication. These skills will be developed through a variety of tools, such as scenario simulation and cases studies. Small group (tutorial) teaching will also be used to facilitate effective skill development.

 

The aim of this programme is to strike a balance between examinations and assessed programme work as well as providing opportunities for feedback on progress through non-assessed work. Learners are encouraged to become independent and innovative thinkers with a sound understanding of theoretical issues and the ability to put these theories into practice and have approximately 18 hours of timetabled activity per week. Learners are also expected to spend approximately 20 hours per week in selfdirected private study/library research.

 

Programme Features

This programme has been accepted by the Registration Council for Secondary Teachers as fulfilling its degree requirements for registration, subject to the complete programme of study being undertaken at LIT. As with any other degrees, a teaching qualification such as the H.Dip.Ed. is also required. The BBS (Honours) in Marketing & Management explores practical, realworld applications of marketing principles; a marriage of business management with marketing. On successful completion of the degree, graduates should possesses the necessary marketing and management skills and tools to work in a wide variety of positions in diverse corporate settings.

 

What will I be able to do when I finish this programme?

The honours degree programme has been designed primarily to equip graduates for employment at executive level in modern businesses, and at the same time provide them with a foundation for further study at professional level in their chosen option. Many graduates go on to study for higher degrees in a wide range of areas.

 

What modules will I study?

International Marketing, Strategic Marketing Management, Commercial Law, Business Policy & HRM (incl. Strategic IS), Logistics & Operations Management. Plus one elective from French, Spanish or Consumer Behaviour.

 

Duration

1 Year add-on Post Bachelor of Business in Marketing & Management (Level 7). Also available part-time over a longer period (ACCS).

Entry Procedures

Progression from Bachelor of Business in Marketing & Management (Level 7) or by direct entry

 

Minimum Entry Requirements

Learners who obtain
(a) a pass in a relevant Bachelor of Business* (Level 7) in one sitting and an overall average performance of 50%
or
(b) a pass in a relevant Bachelor of Business* (Level 7) with one year’s suitable and relevant work experience
or
(c) an equivalent qualification to (a)*

 

* With the appropriate prerequisite subjects

 

Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing & Management (Level 8) graduates are entitled to significant exemptions from the examinations of the following professional bodies:

– The Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII)
– The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
– The Institute of International Trade of Ireland (IITI)
– The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

Further Study Opportunities

Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing & Management (Level 8) graduates may be eligible to apply for post-graduate degrees at Masters level.

 

Graduates may also apply for membership of appropriate professional bodies and qualify for significant exemptions from certain examinations.

 

Links with Professional Organisations/Professional Bodies

The programme has links with the Marketing Institute of Ireland and the Sales Institute of Ireland. In addition, the programme is recognised by Accountancy and Financial services professional associations.Learners may also be in a position to pursue Institute of International Trade awards.
