The School of the Built Environment at LIT is the largest specialised centre for property, quantity surveying, construction and civil engineering education and training outside of Dublin and the only institute or university in Ireland with a full year of work placement on its Honours Degree programmes.

We also offer advanced entry to our courses with cognate Degrees and/or relevant industry experience in the form of full-time learning, or work-based learning.

Our enrolment numbers have remained steady at 1,000 learners despite the reduced level of activity in the construction industry. This is due, in part, to graduate enrollment in add-on programmes to upgrade their qualifications and to applicants from a trades background taking the opportunity to achieve a higher level qualification suited to managerial level positions.

Our programmes offer professional recognition from the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS), the Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and Engineers Ireland.

Many of our students and graduates are well known on Irish sporting fields and the School’s students contributed hugely to the successful LIT Fitzgibbon hurling team of the last few years.

We welcome students who wish to graduate as professionals in this challenging industry and who want to participate actively in the academic, sporting and social life of the Institute. Give us a ring if you’re looking for more information on the programmes offered by the School of Built Environment.
