Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing & Management (Level 8) Ab Initio

 

Programme Description:

This four year programme provides graduates with a broad theoretical and practical preparation for careers at management level in a variety of business situations. The programme has been designed primarily to equip graduates for employment at executive level in modern businesses, and at the same time provide them with a foundation for further study at professional level in their chosen option.

 

Programme Features:

The Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing & Management explores practical, real world applications of marketing principles; a marriage of business management with marketing. Learners are encouraged to become independent and innovative thinkers with a sound understanding of theoretical issues and the ability to put these theories into practice.

 
This programme has been accepted by the Registration Council for Secondary Teachers as fulfilling its degree requirements for registration, subject to the complete programme of study being undertaken at LIT. As with any other degrees, a teaching qualification such as the H.Dip.Ed. is also required.
 
What will I be able to do when I finish this programme?

On successful completion, graduates should possess the necessary marketing and management skills and tools to work in a wide variety of positions in diverse corporate settings.

 

What modules will I study?

Year 1: Principles of Economics, Business Maths & Statistics, Marketing & Management, Principles of Computing /Computer Applications, Financial Accounting. Plus one elective from French, Spanish or Enterprise Development & Business Communications.

 
Year 2: Management Accounting, Human Resource Management, Sales Management & Exporting, Mercantile Law, E-Business for Marketing. Plus one elective from French, Spanish (Ab-Initio) or Organisational Behaviour.
 

Year 3: Managerial Finance, Information Technology Management, Marketing Research, Marketing Communications, Marketing Management. Plus one elective from French, Spanish or Services Marketing.

 

Year 4: International Marketing, Strategic Marketing Management, Commercial Law, Business Policy & HRM (incl. Strategic IS), Logistics & Operations Management. Plus one elective from French, Spanish or Consumer Behaviour.

 

Duration

4 Years Ab-initio. Also available part time over a longer period (ACCS).

 

 

Entry Procedures

Apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) for entry to Year 1. Contact LIT Admissions Office for entry to subsequent years.

 

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Grade HC3 in two higher level papers, together with Grade OD3 in four other subjects of the Leaving Certificate Examination, to include Irish or English and Mathematics. The Mathematics requirement must be met by passing Ordinary or Higher level Mathematics. Foundation level Mathematics will not suffice to meet the requirement.

 

Candidates who do not meet the above entry requirements may be admitted to the programme on the grounds of mature years, if they have attained appropriate experience and attainment thresholds deemed equivalent.

Further Study Opportunities

Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Marketing & Management (Level 8) graduates may be eligible to apply for post-graduate degrees at Masters level.

Graduates may also apply for membership of appropriate professional bodies and qualify for significant exemptions from certain examinations.

 

Links with Professional Organisations/Professional Bodies

The programme has links with the Marketing Institute of Ireland and the Sales Institute of Ireland. In addition, the programme is recognised by Accountancy and Financial services professional associations. Learners may also be in a position to pursue Institute of International Trade awards.
