Development and External Services Offices

The primary role of the Development office is to address the widening participation agenda in the broadest sense (from Level 5 to Level 10) in conjunction with the Registrar, Heads of School/Department and Central Services Managers and then assist in mainstreaming these initiatives.

The External Services Office works closely with the Head of Development in the management of a range of existing services which come within the remit of the widening participation agenda. In addition, the External Services manager is involved in establishing, promoting and delivering a range of services to industrial, commercial and other external organisations which are aimed at supporting the maintenance and development of enterprise and employment and with a view to encouraging the commercial use of institute resources. Broadly speaking the two offices have primary responsibility for self financing activity.

To optimise efficient use of limited resources, avoid duplication of roles, the duties and responsibilities within the functional area of the Development office is broadly split into two distinct areas:
areas of established activity (e.g. Schools visits/evening programmes etc) which the External Services Manager has primary responsibility for and new and emerging activities with increasing potential where the Head of Development takes a lead role.
