SHHH SHHH SHHH - Bags, Streets, Windows. Initiated in 2007 by the arts organization KunstRaum Goethestrasse under the heading ‘City of Respect’ and the residential social rehabilitating initiative 'Neuland'. Amanda was invited to submit a proposals for a art initiative which addresses issues of the cause and effect of mental health, crime, social inclusion/exclusion and criminal justice systems.

The aim of this artwork is to sooth the city and to make contact with individuals in the hours of insomnia; between 2am - 4am. These hours are a receptive time, the conscious and the unconscious are closely met.
‘The Shhh sound is a based on the maternal/paternal calming sounds made by parents when soothing their children. The sound was presented in a number of different sites using three different modes of audio presentation. The audio method and site location supplied the context.

The opening event for this public art project took place at KunstRaum Goethestrasse gallery space. Individuals were invited to take part in this public art project by depositing around the city distinctive radio receivers leaving them in places of personal significance. These bag encased radios were turned to catch the transmitted repeated soft ‘Shhh’ from the airways.

Participants were asked to record the chosen locations with the cameras in their mobile phones and/or text in the site to KunstRaum Goethestrasse. The bags traveled around the city and beyond, discarded or kept. Initially the bag radios were turned to receive Dunsmore sound work which was broadcast from 2 – 4 am from the 25th through to the 30th September by Radio FRO Linz. Though the artist was happy for the bags to be re tune.
