Why Ireland?

As a friendly and safe country, Ireland is one of the fastest growing destinations for international students in Europe. The Irish Government has made International Education a strategic priority for the third level sector in Ireland to build on our innovative and creative culture. They have worked to harmonise the efforts of Education, Industry Support and the Immigration Service to ensure Ireland presents a warm and welcoming environment in which to study. Successful Irish and leading global multi-national companies are keenly focussed on sourcing the best talent from Irish colleges and a suitable Irish qualification will give students a head start in their careers.

Our English-speaking, well-educated and young population has drawn global companies like Google, Facebook, Intel and Hewlett Packard, who now collaborate in our research and employ our innovative, high quality graduates. Our higher education institutes are the driving force behind our technologically-oriented economy, in which new science and traditional scholarship thrive hand-in-hand. We have an extensive choice of Internationally recognised qualifications which can be attained in supportive learning environments.

Some quick facts about Ireland:
- Population of 4.5 million with 40% under 25 years of age
- Described as the friendliest country in the world by Lonely Planet 2010
- Rated as the favourite holiday destination in the world by Frommers Guide 2011
- Rated as one of the safest countries in the world in the Global Peace Index
- Rated as one of the top ten places in the world to do business by the World Bank
- Well connected to the world, at six hours from New York, one hour from Paris and London

Studying in Limerick

Located on the banks of the River Shannon, Ireland's largest river and 15 minutes from Shannon International Airport, Limerick is Ireland's third largest city and the capital of the mid-west region. limerick1.jpg
With over 20,000 full time third level students among it's population of 100,000, it is a vibrant, energetic and multi-cultural city and a great destination for International Students.

Defined by the great river Shannon, the city has an attractive and modern urban centre with boutiques, cafés, and great off the beaten path shops, and a nightlife for all tastes.

As cultural centres go, Limerick has a reputation that cannot easily be matched elsewhere. It is home to the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Daghdha Dance Company, the World Music Centre, Lyric FM, and LIT’s own Wired FM. Theatre and entertainment venues include the LIT Millennium Theatre, University of Limerick Concert Hall, the intimate Belltable Arts Centre, Dolan’s Warehouse and multi-screen cinemas throughout the city. It's no surprise that Limerick has been chosen as the Irish City of Culture for 2014. Limerick is renowned as a Centre of excellence for technology. It is home to the National Technology Park of Ireland and to many international electronics and other high technology firms.

In the sporting arena, Limerick can proudly boast high profile teams across a wide range of sports. With Thomond Park, home of Munster Rugby, adjancent to our main campus and the Gaelic Grounds just down the road, there are loads of opportunities to take in a match. There are also many other sporting clubs such as rowing, boxing, cycling, etc. that combine to give Limerick the edge as Ireland’s sporting capital.

In the Sunday Times University Guide 2013, LIT was chosen as Institute of the Year from the 13 Irish Institutes of Technology. We offer you a wide range of programmes across a number of disciplines all geared to today’s employment needs. Our research income is one of the fastest growing among the IOTs in Ireland and our campuses have the most up-to-date facilities at your fingertips. Our mission is to prepare learners for productive and challenging careers and our belief in learning by doing, or Active Learning, gives our students the hands on experience that employers are looking for.

A few minutes away from the Moylish Park Campus on Clare Street you will find the newly refurbished Limerick School of Art & Design, which can trace it's origins back to 1852.

LSAD as it is known, consistently has award winning students who are at the cutting edge in the design world. The campus reflects this imagination, creativity and ambition that we see in our Art & Design students. This year our Fashion department was named in a top 50 of global fashion schools

LIT has two further campuses based in County Tipperary, Thurles in the North of the County and Clonmel in the south. The campuses are about an hours drive from Limerick City. These campuses have a range of courses including Sports Strenght & Conditioning, Games Development, Sustatainable Energy Systems and Creative Multimedia.
