Course title: Presentation Skills

Date:    Wednesday 4 March 2009

Description:   The course is designed to enable participants to make confident, informative and effective presentations to large or small groups. It will also look at ways to enable participants to generate audience commitment and action through effective objective planning and meeting control.

 

Audience:  This course is especially aimed at staff involved in information literacy training and support, and those who are required to make presentations as part of their work.

Course title: Train the Trainer/ Teaching Skills

Date:    Thursday 23 April 2009

Description:    This workshop aims to provide participants with skills to facilitate training workshops.   The Learner Centred Model will be covered, along with learning styles, key competencies, presentation skills, handling questions, coping when things go wrong and encouraging participant involvement.

Course title: Designing and Implementing Portals

Course title: Web 2.0 Building on the Basics

Description:   Libraries are increasingly using Web 2.0 technologies to deliver an enriched user experience, including more current information and interactive features.  This workshop will give delegates practical experience of using technologies such as blogs, RSS feeds, tagging, searching and bookmarking.   There will be lots of discussion and ideas for developing innovative communication channels with users.

Course title: Digitisation

Date:  Friday 5 June 2009

Description: This workshop will offer a practical introduction to the principles and practices of digital imaging. Participants will have the opportunity to develop a digitization strategy, the creation of imaging standards, and the selection of best practices for a selection of humanities and library based imaging projects. Topics of exploration will include, imaging tools and technologies, metadata standards, and imaging processes, standards and best practices.

Course title: Learning and Information literacy in Web 2.0
Date:    Friday 2 October 2009

 

Description:    The impact of the digital environment on learning in general and teaching information literacy in particular will be the focus of this event.   The sustainability of existing models of information literacy and the role and strategies of librarians in this new environment will be examined.   There will be discussion on the integration of Web 2.0 technologies into information literacy training.

 

Audience:  Librarians who are responsible for developing and delivering information literacy programmes, as well as senior staff interested in the strategic impact of Web 2.0 technology on library programming.

Course title: Metadata

Description: Metadata is playing an increasingly important part in information management.  This course introduces the concepts and terminology of metadata and places it within the wider context of library and information work.  It also shows how current thinking on metadata will affect future cataloguing practice.

• Identified the relationship between metadata and cataloguing
