Course title: Designing and Implementing Portals

Description: Portals are a useful tool for presenting a coherent online presence for users. Participants will receive training on current portal technologies and standards and Web 2.0 tools and applications will also be covered, along with ideas and concepts around good portal design and effective implementation.

Course title: Web 2.0 Building on the Basics

Description: Libraries are increasingly using Web 2.0 technologies to deliver an enriched user experience, including more current information and interactive features. This workshop will give delegates practical experience of using technologies such as blogs, RSS feeds, tagging, searching and bookmarking. There will be lots of discussion and ideas for developing innovative communication channels with users.

Course title: Digitisation

Description: This workshop will offer a practical introduction to the principles and practices of digital imaging. Participants will have the opportunity to develop a digitization strategy, the creation of imaging standards, and the selection of best practices for a selection of humanities and library based imaging projects. Topics of exploration will include, imaging tools and technologies, metadata standards, and imaging processes, standards and best practices.

Course title: Learning and Information literacy in Web 2.0
Date: Friday 2 October 2009
Description: The impact of the digital environment on learning in general and teaching information literacy in particular will be the focus of this event. The sustainability of existing models of information literacy and the role and strategies of librarians in this new environment will be examined. There will be discussion on the integration of Web 2.0 technologies into information literacy training.
