Supported by Bord Gáis Networks
Limerick School of Art & Design, LIT, proudly announces two major fashion events taking place in Limerick in May -, The LSAD Fashion Show ‘Nineteen’ (Milk Market , Thursday 16th May, 8pm) and the ‘LSAD International Alumni Fashion Gathering’, featuring the return of internationally renowned fashion alumni (LSAD, Friday 17th May, 10am).
‘Nineteen’ will showcase collections by 19 final year fashion students from LSAD who have recently completed international work placements with prestigious design houses - Alexander Wang New York , Sharon Wauchob Paris, Barbara I Gongini Denmark, Phillip Treacy London and Amit Aggarwal India. It will also show work by celebrated LSAD fashion alumni Joanne Hynes, Natalie B. Coleman, Tim Ryan and Danielle Romeril.
The Fashion Show will take place in a city centre location in Limerick’s historic Milk Market. Mike Fitzpatrick, head of School of LSAD has commented “The move of the LSAD Fashion Show to the city centre Milk Market is continuing evidence of LIT’s commitment to enhance the cultural fabric of the city and support the City of Culture designation for Limerick.” Supported by Limerick City Council, this use of a city centre stage for the famous fashion show also ties in with LIT’s proposed expansion of its city Centre Campus.
As 2013 is also the year of the Gathering, ‘Nineteen’ is running in tandem with an ‘International Alumni Fashion Gathering’ with a homecoming of stellar design talent to Limerick city invited to showcase their work at the Fashion Show and to share their experience and inspire young designers at the ‘International Alumni Fashion Gathering’. “This is a wonderful opportunity for LSAD, and Limerick City, to reconnect with our graduates and for them to share their wealth of knowledge with current students and the general public alike” states Anne Melinn, Head of Fashion in LSAD.
Both these prestigious events are sponsored by Bord Gáis Networks and form part of a two-year partnership with LSAD. “Bord Gáis Networks has a strong ethos of education, innovation and design,” says Sean Casey, Acting Managing Director of Bord Gáis Networks, “and support of the communities in which we operate is very important to us. We have a long and proud history in Limerick so we are delighted to partner with LSAD to support budding Irish design talent and to play a part in the drive to promote Limerick City as an international centre for fashion education and excellence.”
A highlight of ‘Nineteen’ will be the announcement of three significant awards following the presentation and judging of the final year collections -“The Bord Gáis Networks Award for most innovative use of fabric within a collection”, “The AIB Business Development Award” (which includes a bursary and a year’s mentoring programme) and “The Blarney Woollen Mills Knitwear Graduate Design Award” which includes a bursary and an internship for one year at Blarney Woollen Mills.
