Limerick City of Culture Celebrates Irish Fashion on 15th May
Ireland’s first National City of Culture, Limerick, will host the city’s biggest fashion show on 15th May. The Limerick School of Art & Design (LSAD), in partnership with Bord Gáis Networks, will showcase 27 graduates who will display awe-inspiring designs on the night.
The fashion show will take place in the heart of Limerick City at The Milk Market providing the perfect creative backdrop for what promises to be a breathtaking show, attended by over xxx people, demonstrating why LSAD is one of the top 50 fashion schools in the world.
It was a hugely successful year for LSAD students who exhibited in Cologne with Schoeller knit, were included in the hugely successful CREATE initiative in Brown Thomas and participated in The Sybil Connolly exhibition in The Hunt museum. Graduate work placements have included many prestigious design houses around the world including Sharon Wauchob Paris, Philip Treacy in London, Martin Lamothe in Barcelona and Ellery in Australia.
The Limerick City of Culture has made a substantial investment in the rising talent of the LSAD students in 2014 and speaking about the upcoming show, Head of the Limerick City of Culture, Mike Fitzpatrick, said “Events like this are crucial in highlighting the enormous talent we have in our region and we will continue to invest in this talent through the expansion plan for LSAD which will include a new fashion incubation centre for designers who can avail of studios and seminars to further up-skill. LSAD is the only Irish college selected to show at London Graduate Week in June so it is with huge pride that we introduce these graduates of 2014.”
Head of Fashion at LSAD, Anne Melinn added “This show aims to be our most exciting yet and will showcase why LSAD is an international centre for fashion education and excellence. This year’s students have experimented with colour, fabric and form and produced innovative concepts with excellent craftsmanship. The show is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our graduates and for them to share and inspire our current students.”
A Highlight of this year’s Fashion Show will be the announcement of three significant Awards following the presentation and judging of the final year collections:
1. “The Bord Gáis Networks Award for most innovative use of fabric within a collection”.
2. “The AIB Business Development Award” which includes a bursary and a year’s mentoring programme.
3. “The Sharon Wauchob work placement bursary” which includes a 6 month full time work placement in Paris with the internationally renowned designer.
