More Information: Limerick Institute of Technology is committed to promoting equitable access to and successful participation in higher education. Directed by the office of the Registrar, the LIT Access agenda flows from a philosophy of integration and social inclusiveness. Reporting directly to the Academic Affairs and Student Services Manager, the Access Service is managed by the Access Officer.
The aim of the access service is to support widening access for underrepresented learners by delivering targeted strategies to promote, facilitate entry to and successful participation in higher education. These learner groups include:
• Learners who experience socio-economic disadvantage • Learners with Disability and/or Specific Learning Difficulty • Mature Learners • Travellers and Ethnic Minorities
The role of the access service is to:
• Promote equal opportunities for access, participation and completion by delivering targeted strategies (pre and post entry) designed specifically to elicit the learners’ full potential so as to increase access to and success in higher education by individuals who are traditionally underrepresented. • Meet prospective/current learners and ascertain which interventions may be required to enable entry to, and participation in the academic programmes of the Institute. • Enable learners to participate in their chosen programme by sourcing and delivering reasonable accommodations. • Ongoing dialogue with all stakeholder groups to acknowledge and address the broad array of academic, financial and personal barriers facing potential learners. • Work in collaboration with the Student Support Services Team and Institute wide staff in the delivery of pre/post entry initiatives. • Liaise with local and national education providers, statutory and voluntary agencies and local community groups to support access and participation in education in line with local and national strategic objectives.

The main concentration of computers is located in the Computer Centre on the Moylish Park campus and the majority of classes in the first two years take place here. Specialist labs are also provided for Degree students on certain courses. Most of the leading software applications found in use in industry are provided for student use.
Open access computing facilities are provided in the libraries, giving student access to many software applications and the Internet. Wireless zones are also located throughout the main campus, allowing students Internet access from their own personal laptops.
User accounts allow students to access the Institute network and also provide each student with an email account which can be used throughout their stay at LIT. Webmail facilities are also provided which means that students can use their Institute email account off-campus and can access it from any computer with Internet access. Click here to access student webmail and then enter your username and password.
Video Conferencing
Video Conferencing facilities are available on campus. Videoconferencing uses telecommunications of audio and video to bring people at different sites together for a meeting. This can be as simple as a conversation between two people in private offices (point-to-point) or involve several sites (multi-point) with more than one person in large rooms at different sites. HEAnet provide a video conferencing service that is available to all HEAnet clients.

More Information: The Institute welcomes applications from students who have a disability.
“A student is disabled if he or she requires a facility which is not part of the mainstream provision of the college concerned, to enable participation in the college to the full extent of her or his ability/capabilities and without which she or he would be educationally disadvantaged in comparison to peers.” (HEA/AHEAD,1993)

Where a disability becomes apparent during a student’s attendance at Limerick Institute of Technology, the student should contact the Access Officer who will support the student and assist with any necessary information.
