The Regional Knex challenge finals will be held at Limerick Institute of Technology on the 25th of April from 9.30 in the morning to 3.30 in the afternoon followed by a presentation of prizes.
The Knex challenge is run by Engineers Ireland STEPS to encourage students to explore the world of science and Engineering, and inform them of the fantastic career opportunities in Engineering. The supply of Engineering professionals will need to increase by 7% per annum between now and 2020 for Ireland to reach its potential of becoming one of the top five global economies, according to the report “Engineering a knowledge island 2020” compiled by Engineers Ireland and the Irish Academy of Engineers.
This competition is set up by Engineers Ireland programme STEPS to engineering and Hasbro which manufactures KNEX and is facilitated by Limerick Institute of Technology.
Each team comprises of two children who will compete against the clock using their imagination, creativity and skill to plan, design and construct an engineering model. The pupils will work under the theme, celebrating the past, creating the future with the educational construction toy KNEX.
The KNEX challenge is a fantastic opportunity for young people to experience first hand how creative an interesting engineering is.
Children are naturally inquisitive: Mol an Oige agus tiocfaidh siad. (Praise the youth and they will come).
