Nuala Commane FANTASY The Internet inspired this sculpture. I did not start out with this piece in mind, I let the copper speak for itself and followed where it led. Crochet allowed the wire to solidify the intricacy of cyberspace. Each stitch is linked intimately to another.

The exhibition was a collaboration between Sculpture & Combined Media Department and the In-Touch Company. Using computer components and materials supplied by In-Touch. Second year students of the Sculpture & Combined Media Department created an exhibition of works exploring concepts such as: virtual reality, the body and technology, art & technology, society & technology, science fiction, computers, software/hardware, viruses and computer waste.

The issue of computer waste is the central theme of the exhibition. This year, the global computer industry produced its billionth PC, and it is expected to make one billion more by 2008. The tech industry has distanced itself from the problem of e-waste exports, but is grappling with the demand for domestic recycling solution.

The exhibition had 13 works; prizes were be awarded at 4.30pm on 21st January 2003 in the Church Gallery.
