LIMERICK CITY CENTRE COMISSION
Limerick Coordination Office, in association with the Dutch Embassy and LIT developed a commisoned compitition for an artistic feature, located on the junction of O’Connell Street and Bedford Row/Thomas Street, Limerick.
This sculptural commission is a major landmark artwork celebrating and connecting both Bedford Row and Thomas Street as part of the recently completed City Centre Pedestrianisation Scheme. Sixteen Sculpture and Combined Media Students submitted proposals which were exhibited in Limericks city centre. The public was invited to chose there favourite, over 1800 cast votes over a duration of a week. Three students have been shortlisted Maggie Shirley, Clive Moloney and Breege Cameron. The final selection will take place in the near future.
The commission is also supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands though the facilitation of the commission design, in association with Bik and VanDepol internationally recognized public art practitioner/artist from Holland.
