The Sculpture & Combined Media Department has been involved in a variety of public art and site-specific projects. These projects involve both permanent and temporary nature and are an integral part of the course curriculum.

Public Art Projects

Public Art projects are run as an open competition for the Sculpture & Combined Media students, with a winning design being chosen by both staff and individuals/companies.

International Projects

Borders of the Human Mind Project The department offers opportunities for students to work on European funded Sculptural/Public Art Projects.In 2001 students and staff worked in Lapland, in 2002 they will work in the Burren. In 2003 in Lithuania. It is planned to visit Gibraltar in the near future.

Issue Based Projects

Second year students in 2003 worked on a sculpture exhibition with materials provided by In-Touch Ltd. This involved using re-cycled computer parts and materials to address issues of environment and sculptural concerns. The award for the winning sculpture was a free computer. Runners up get gift vouchers from the company.

Also exclusively on offer to Scupture & Combined Media students are a series of Work Experience programs in the form of Internships at Limerick City Gallery of Art, The Belltable Arts Centre, The University of Limerick Arts Office, Limerick County Council Arts Office, The Fresh Film Festival and Limerick City Council Arts Office.
